I recently made the discovery that you can actually disable Dolby Digital in your sound settings, and force every single PS3 game to output DTS sound. Previously, it was thought that only a handful of games actually supported DTS output Killzone 2, Uncharted, Resistance 2, etc. Now, my question is, is this a good idea or not? Would it result in improved sound quality or degraded sound quality?
On the one hand, DTS is a better quality and higher bitrate output method than Dolby Digital; on the other hand, I don't know if forcing DTS in games that normally don't default to it would only result in worse framerate because of extra work the CPU has to do to encode sound for DTS output as opposed to plain Dolby Digital output Every game.

When I listen to the game in Multi Ch in it sounds like I'm getting the correct sounds from my speakers but the receiver doesn't say that. I made sure the game settings were "Theater", The only other settings in game were stereo and headphone surround. I don't know what to do next. I called Denon and they said their receiver supports DD 5. They told me to set the PS3 to bitstream which I did and it made no difference. After all it is playing DD 5.

All of them down to the 2 channel PCM options which should remain grayed out and won't be deselectable. It is similar to bitstream or PCM settings for movies.
If you switch to bitstream you will get the raw data and the codecs will light up on your AVR. Sony has a stupid way of implementing audio.
Again if it bothers you can deselect the multi-channel PCM options but if you use it to watch movies you will have to re-enable it and you would also have to enable it on Sony first party title games and any other games that actually support 7.
