Ps3 dolby digital games

Good idea? Thread starter Staticks Start date Sep 28, Staticks Standard Member. I recently made the discovery that you can actually disable Dolby Digital in your sound settings, and force every single PS3 game to output DTS sound. Previously, it was thought that only a handful of games actually supported DTS output Killzone 2, Uncharted, Resistance 2, etc. Now, my question is, is this a good idea or not? Would it result in improved sound quality or degraded sound quality?

On the one hand, DTS is a better quality and higher bitrate output method than Dolby Digital; on the other hand, I don't know if forcing DTS in games that normally don't default to it would only result in worse framerate because of extra work the CPU has to do to encode sound for DTS output as opposed to plain Dolby Digital output Every game.

Not all games support DTS so some would have no audio. I'd not recommend forcing DTS, but just make sure it's switched on when it's available.

However, most games, and seemingly every recent game, supports DTS if you force it do this by disabling Dolby Digital, in case you didn't know. All of these games are outputting DTS. I really am curious if Sony policy has made it so that every game that comes out now supports DTS. Fmrl Well-known Member. Fmrl said:.

When I listen to the game in Multi Ch in it sounds like I'm getting the correct sounds from my speakers but the receiver doesn't say that. I made sure the game settings were "Theater", The only other settings in game were stereo and headphone surround. I don't know what to do next. I called Denon and they said their receiver supports DD 5. They told me to set the PS3 to bitstream which I did and it made no difference. After all it is playing DD 5.

I am stumped. Is there something anyone out there knows that I might not be setting correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you want to see your AVR actually say Dolby Digital all you have to do is go into your settings and disable the 7.

All of them down to the 2 channel PCM options which should remain grayed out and won't be deselectable. It is similar to bitstream or PCM settings for movies.

If you switch to bitstream you will get the raw data and the codecs will light up on your AVR. Sony has a stupid way of implementing audio.

Again if it bothers you can deselect the multi-channel PCM options but if you use it to watch movies you will have to re-enable it and you would also have to enable it on Sony first party title games and any other games that actually support 7.

All games are output as PCM and there is no option to change other than doing what I said about deselecting the 5. Coming soon: 2 Seaton Submersives from Mark Seaton. They told me to set the PS3 to bitstream which I did and it made no difference By the way since you said you had a fat PS3 you will want to set this back to PCM as fats were incapable of bitstreaming HD codecs. Not until the slims could they bitstream HD audio for movies. So if you use your PS3 as a blu-ray player if you leave it as bitstream you will get lossy codecs and not get the lossless audio.

Archizzy - Thanks for your quick reply. If I understand you correctly i am getting 5. What should I leave it on? Multi Channel IN? Multi Channel Stereo? Video Game? You are getting Dolby Digital yes. Your Denon should be in auto and it should switch accordingly.
